Waingapu is the largest town on Sumba and the capital of East Sumba. It is also the chief air and sea port.
From there you can go by ship to Ende (Flores), Kupang (Timor), Denpasar (Bali), Bima (Sumbawa) and to Sabu island.
From there you can go by air to Denpasar (Bali)

Waikabubak is the capital of (and largest town in) West Sumba. Unlike Waingapu, Waikabubak is inland and elevated. It can be quite cold on winter nights (June July August).
